Ok so once again, here we are on the eve of the 29th week and I am scrambling to update.
This week has been extremely busy. The older that we get (and we aren’t old by any stretch of the imagination) the more we become homebodies. I would much rather sit at home, relaxing and talking with good friends than try to go out to a bar or restaurant that is over crowded and have to fight for a table or a drink. That being said, we have been extremely busy! Last weekend, I (Mary) went to see my parents where they live, about 45 minutes away, for Father’s Day…but before that, my sister took me out sailing on a racing sailboat in the intracoastal waterway and the ocean! It was a blast! I have always enjoyed sailing, but this was a totally different kind of sailing! The guy who owned the boat answered all of my stupid questions and was so very nice to us! My sister got me that as a present for my birthday, which was in May. I had a blast and would love to do that again some time!
I went to go see my parents and we had a nice time catching up and talking about things! One of my sister’s friends came down so they could talk about the baby shower that they are planning for July 11th. She has 2 boys and it was so nice to hear her talk about how much she enjoyed being a parent and how much she loved having babies! So many times, people only tell you the horror stories of labor, childbirth and what it’s like being a new parent to an infant…Heather told us of the good times and it really made me feel good!
One of my best friends from middle and high school is living in Wilmington for the summer and so we went out to dinner with her on Monday. We were also able to go out to dinner tonight with another old friend… It is so nice to catch up and it almost seems like you don’t skip a beat when you are with people who truly love you!
Machelle has been a trooper..we have had record heat here for the past 2 weeks..it seems like every day is 95-100 degrees with a heat index of 105+. I know that she has got to just be absolutely miserable..this “non-pregnant mom” sure is! It is too hot to go to the beach, swim in the pool or do anything outside! She has also been out pretty late for us the past 3 nights and I know that she is absolutely exhausted. I can’t imagine how she must feel!
So we have made it in to the 3rd and final trimester. The thought that there will be a baby here in 11 weeks is absolutely mind blowing. I know that we will be as ready as we can be, but sometimes it scares the crap out of me! It is such a huge life change but such a wonderful life change as well! Our lives haven’t been the same since December 17th, 2014 and I know that things will only continue to get better. Sometimes I wonder why and how we have gotten this lucky? Why does it seem like we have been lucky enough to get everything that we wanted when we wanted it…it makes me think about when Charlotte on Sex and the City begins to wonder when something terrible will happen to her because she feels like she has gotten everything that she has ever wanted.
Machelle and I went to the midwife appointment today and they said that Machelle was doing great! She is measuring a little big, but she assured me that there was nothing to worry about. I mistakenly asked the midwife if she was able to tell if the baby was head down. I get worried when Machelle pushes a little too hard on her own tummy because I am convinced that Doodle is going to come out with a broken foot or something..but when the midwife went to check to see if Doodle was head down, she pushed all over Machelle’s stomach…hard. I know she knows what she is doing, but now I guess I know there is nothing to worry about when Machelle barely pushes on her stomach so that Doodle will kick/punch back. It is getting a little bit harder for Machelle to bend over and pick things up now and I am so glad that we are pretty much finished with the nursery! I think getting that done early is a great idea, if you are able to do it!
Doodle is being very interactive now..and I can feel Doodle all the time. The other night, I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn’t go back to sleep. I put my hand on Machelle’s stomach and felt Doodle kick for at least an hour. It is so crazy to me that there is an actual human in there…an actual human!
I am not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but there seems to be a weird time warp that happens when you/your partner is pregnant. It seems like there is no time before the baby gets here but at the same time, time is flying past so quickly and there is nothing that you can do to slow it down. I don’t know how to explain this..but it just happens and when it does, it is so weird!
Machelle is still steering clear of heartburn and the midwife said she is not at all concerned about the weight that Machelle has gained. Machelle is very vigilant about keeping track of this and is still going to Zumba 1-2 times a week and working out with a personal trainer 2 times a week. I think she looks the best she has ever looked! I feel like I am just getting fatter..but it might be all the eating out we’ve done this week!
Alright, I have gotta go try to finish watching at least 1 of the new episodes of Orange is the New Black..if I can stay awake..
Y’all be kind to each other and yourself..and if you are anywhere in North Carolina, try to stay cool!
Mary
She looks great!
I know what you mean about the weird time warp of pregnancy. I found earlier in the pregnancy things were moving slowly, but now (at 31 weeks) it’s lightning speed. I am also kind on in shock at how few weeks there are between now and getting a baby. We’re as prepared as we can be, but I’m not sure if anyone is really prepared – it’s like packing for a mystery destination.
